USB2TTL - A Miniature USB To TTL Adapter

As many modern computers and especially laptops don't have any serial ports anymore you need a USB to TTL Adapter to use the older but much simpler RS232 standard with your own electronics.

I wanted this adapter to be small and support 5V and 3V signal levels(If you want true RS232 wit +-12V signals better buy a adapter off the shelf).

The PCB is designed to easily fit on a breadboard for prototyping and also serve as a replaceable daughter board in other projects.

The chip used is a FTDI FT232RL which is widely available. Only a few extra components are needed to get this chip running. Not even a crystal or resonator is necessary.

The archive contains the schematic and layout as eagle files and images. Additionally a postscript is included which can be used to strip the resist only at the pads to prevent corrosion.

I modified my adapter after completing it. A small wire runs from the 5V supplied by the USB to the pin header. Now the adapter can supply a small circuit directly.
